You can adopt a cat in Geelong this weekend for just $29

This weekend adoption fees for cats will be lowered to just $29 to ease pressure on the GAWS shelter, which is currently overrun with cats needing and wanting a loving place to call home.

If you’re feeling a little lonely and have been considering a companion (or you want to earn brownie points as the best partner ever), now might be the perfect time to act.

Geelong Animal Welfare Society (AKA GAWS) is running an adoption drive this weekend in a big to help clear the shelter and help their felines find their forever homes.

With GAWS currently at capacity with cats, both in their shelter and foster homes, the local group are asking the community to open their hearts and homes by adopting a beloved feline companion by offering a lowered adoption fee of $29 on all adult cats this Saturday and Sunday, dubbed it Feline Frenzy weekend (Saturday 21-Sunday 22 January 2023).

“We need to find as many loving homes for our cats as possible, to ease pressure on the facility, animals, staff and resources, and to create space for more cats who need care,” GAWS said in a statement.
“You can come and meet all of the available cats at GAWS, including some of those who are currently being cared for in foster.”

To ensure the purr-fect match, GAWS adoption procedures remain in place so that your new furry friend is the right fit for your lifestyle.

Maybe you already have a cat who would like a friend? They have plenty of shy cats who could be suitable.

To make the process even easier, GAWS are extending our hours to give you plenty of time to meet your new best friend. The shelter will be open 10am-4pm on both days (Jan 21 & Jan 22), but best to come before 3pm so you have plenty of time to meet your new best friend and go through the adoption process. Walk-ins accepted. No appointments necessary!

The promotion excludes kittens under the age of six months and special breeds. All adoption animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm treated.

If you were considering introducing a new cat into your home, now is the purr-fect time to do so.

GAWS is located at 325 Portarlington Road Geelong. Find out more here
