Whilst the Superbowl half-time show is a global affair, it doesn’t take away from the game itself, with fans across the world disregarding their time zone differences to catch the big game.
Forte sat down with Australia’s sporting legend, Ben Graham, who was the first Australian to ever play in a Superbowl, and who will be celebrating this years game at The Sporting Globe in Geelong.
You attended The Sporting Globe Geelong last year for Superbowl, why is it a great venue for the event?
The Sporting Globe is a great venue to relax, have a great US themed feed and of course enjoy all the sport you can consume on the many big screens and booth TV’s. It was awesome to see so many NFL fans on Super Bowl day back home in Geelong this time last year at the 2016 game.
Do you need to be a fan of American Football or know the rules to to enjoy Super Bowl day?
If you are a fan of sport, this is an event you can’t miss. Not only will it be a great game, the pre and half time entertainment will be talked about for weeks. If you aren’t completely across all the rules (there will be plenty of people in the same boat), diehard NFL fans will be more than willing to bring you up speed wherever you will watch it. It is a game where the more you know, the more you will enjoy it.
Being the first Aussie to ever play in the massive sporting event what is the atmosphere like on the day?
Absolutely amazing. In what was supposed to be a normal build up, the two weeks between the NFC Championship game and the Super Bowl felt like a month. Running out to a full stadium in Tampa Bay and with hundreds of millions of people watching around the world, it is a moment I’ll never forget. Even at half time when I came out to warm up, I had a front seat to the Bruce Springsteen concert.
Watching the Superbowl at The Sporting Globe and being surrounded by the crowd atmosphere, do you get a similar buzz?
The Sporting Globe puts on a great event for all big sporting events in particular the Super Bowl. It is fantastic to see so many NFL and sporting fans where their NFL jerseys and cheer on the two teams in the big game whilst enjoying a great feed and many beverages.
Who’s your tip to take the trophy this year?
My tip this year in Super Bowl 51 is the New England Patriots 31-24
