William Shakespeare's beloved Twelfth Night (October 5-7) and Sydney Theatre Company's award-winning The Visitors (November 1-4) are both coming to one of Victoria's finest architectural accomplishments - the newly redesigned Geelong Arts Centre.
Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, known for its witty wordplay, unforgettable characters, and themes of love and disguise. There’s no better company to bring it to the stage than Bell Shakespeare, Australia’s pre-eminent Shakespeare specialist theatre company. Likewise, Geelong Arts Centre’s new stage The Story House will provide a suitably enchanting setting.
The story revolves around shipwrecked Viola, who disguises herself as a man named Cesario, leading to a series of mistaken identities and romantic entanglements. Director Heather Fairbairn and the talented cast – highlighted with original music by none other than Sarah Blasko – promise to bring this beloved play to life with a fresh and innovative twist while staying true to its Shakespearean roots.

The Visitors
Co-produced by Sydney Theatre Company and Moogahlin Performing Arts, The Visitors is one of the most important Australian stories to hit our stages over the past few years, retelling of one the most impactful and painful days in this nation’s history.
Despite the tragic outcomes it forecasts, the production is an entertaining and immersive experience, inviting you to empathise with the seven clan leaders standing on an escarpment back in 1788, while a mysterious fleet of giant nawi approaches the harbour.
Given the riveting concept, this production has unsurprisingly received rave reviews, winning the Sydney Theatre Award at the 2020 Sydney Festival. Muruwari playwright Jane Harrison’s version will be reworked for Geelong Arts Centre by one of Australia’s most celebrated directors, Quandamooka man Wesley Enoch.
It’s a fitting production to experience in Geelong Arts Centre’s new Little Malop Street Redevelopment, a building that weaves First Nations culture and storytelling into the very fabric of the design.
