From the 1st June to 31st July Gilbert Street in Torquay will be lighting up with beanies everywhere. Started in 2008 by knitters who met at Torquay Uniting Church, the festival has now become a community event known as Celebration of Yarn.
Anyone can participate in this blizzard of knitting, and the beanies will be on display during the two months. The festival is raising funds for Save the Children by selling some of the knitwear and is also knitting scarfs as part of the Warm Front Beach Project to donate to those in need of some warmth. An exceptional concept, perfect for those dull and boring winter days!
