The Screaming Females Lock in Ballarat Show

Having recently celebrated the 10-year mark as a band, Screaming Females are pumped to announce that they will have a belated birthday bash in Australia.

The band is fronted by Marissa Paternoster, who grew up in Elizabeth, NJ. Her interest in music was supported and encouraged by school music programs and a healthy stint in the school choir.

For various reasons she would later transfer out of the public school system to attend Catholic school, Roselle Catholic. Fortunately, a local maths (or math, in her case) teacher ran an after school music club. It was here she began hanging out with future Screaming Females bassist ‘King’ Mike Abbate.

The New Jersey underground punk act will head out in support of their sixth album, Rose Mountain, which took out the #20 spot on Stereogum’s ‘The 50 Best Albums of 2015’. The newie is the follow-up to 2012’s Ugly, which was recorded with Steve Albini. This time around the band turned to Matt Bayles, who engineered Pearl Jam’s Binaural before going on to produce the heavier fare of Mastodon and Isis. You can also track down a short doco on the making of the album online.

The Eastern, Ballarat – August 7.
