The region’s annual festival of blooms, Ballarat Begonia Festival, returns to its original format in March 2023

Ballarat will be in full bloom once again as the Ballarat Begonia Festival returns over the Labour Day long weekend, Saturday 11 to Monday 13 March 2023.  

Ballarat is set to bloom once again as the City of Ballarat delivers its 71st immersive Ballarat Begonia Festival.

Returning to its original three-day format, the free nature-based event in the heart of Victoria’s Goldfields region will embrace the city’s thriving, creative community and showcase its signature  collection of rare begonias with an exciting new program.

The city’s 150-year-old Ballarat Botanical Gardens will play host to a spectacular floral display of rare begonias at the Robert Clark Conservatory. With more than 500 rare begonias, it is breathtakingly beautiful and a must-see for your festival itinerary.

Colourful installations will fill the gardens with the event’s main stage and floral clock also returning for 2023. Alongside vibrant flower displays, festival-goers can also expect fine food purveyors, markets, live music, kids’ activities, and roving entertainment while the PowerFM Begonia Parade will take place on Monday 13 March 2023 

The 2023 program welcomes new events and performances set to bring wonder and awe to the  Ballarat Botanical Gardens. There will be something for everyone at the 2023 Ballarat Begonia  Festival.

Established in 1953, the Ballarat Begonia Festival is an innovative garden-based horticultural event  that showcases Ballarat’s natural assets including its unique and rare collections of begonias. For 10 months of the year, the City of Ballarat’s horticultural team grow and nurture thousands of  begonias in over 500 varieties. The impressive collection is the rarest in the southern hemisphere.  The annual event is held in March and represents an authentic part of Ballarat’s story. It is one of  Ballarat’s largest events drawing thousands of visitors to the city.
