The Jungle Giants, known for their high spirit live performances, came back to Melbourne to showcase their ‘Heavy Hearted’ tour and we were lucky enough to see them play!
Sydney-based DJ Adi Toohey set the crowd up for an energetic night, invigorating the crowd with her refreshing, percussive tracks. As always, it was a pleasure to see her live: she was clearly in her element, grooving along to her electronic set.
Then, at exactly 10pm, the lights dimmed – and the crowd cheered. Ten minutes later, The Jungle Giants appeared, and the show kicked off with their classic ‘Quiet Ferocity’. Their set-list had all their well-loved songs, including but not limited to ‘On Your Way Down’, ‘Waiting For A Sign’, ‘I Am What You Want Me To Be’, ‘Bad Dream’, ‘Used To Be In Love’.
Whilst their 2017 releases are all highly respected by their fans, it was a real treat to see them play ‘Heavy Hearted’, their most recent release. Upbeat and energetic, with strong performances from all band members – the band couldn’t have delivered it better.
It wasn’t only the tone of the music that the crowd loved, however, it was the way in which Sam, the lead guitarist, engaged with the crowd. Accepting sunglasses from a fan – and rocking them! – as well as actively encouraging the crowd to sing along made the crowd fiery. What truly pushed the fans over the edge was Sam’s incredible vocal abilities, drawing out the emotion in each of the songs and magnifying it.
Coupled with the bright lights that matched their album cover-art as well as their high-powered visuals, there is no doubt that The Jungle Giants once again delivered a performance to Melbourne. We aren’t surprised The Forum sold out!
