The Dukes of Deliciousness

In celebration of Popcultcha’s new Collector Gallery, The Dukes of Deliciousness will be performing on opening day alongside Grindhouse, Tom Stevenson Band, Sheriff, The Mojo Corner, Stone Mocean and The Red Men. Forte chat to the Dukes’ frontman Michael Findlay ahead of the launch party.

Hi Mike, thanks for chatting. What has been keeping The Dukes of Deliciousness busy recently?
Actually the Dukes haven’t played a show in ages. We all have other bands we play in so we are really excited to blow the dust off and play together again. It didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things. It’s like riding a bike….a sexy, sexy three seater bike.

What other bands do the members of Dukes of Deliciousness play in?
Juz plays in Nemesium, Billy plays in Destrends and I play with Redro Redreigez and Dr Colossus. Check em out.

What’s been a highlight gig in your time?
Playing with Red Fang and Brant Bjork are personal highlights. But every show can have something rad about it. Every time we play River Rocks and Cherry, we always walk away with warm fuzzies from there… and hangovers you can see from outer space.

Can you give me a story about the band name?

It’s a quote from Red Dwarf… yes we are nerds… NEEERRRRRRRRDDS!!

What can the punters expect from a show from The Dukes of Deliciousness?
If they have high expectations, then they can expect disappointment! No, just heavy, arse shaking rock ‘n’ roll. Blistering solos from Killawatts and the unstoppable force of Juzzy Stixxx on drums. He’s the eye candy in the band… no one denies that! I expect everyone to be pregnant by the end of our set.

Are you into Comics, Superheroes and the like?
I like Deadpool because he’s such a jerk. I used to love Milk and Cheese comics. There’s a blast from the past. A carton of milk and a wedge of cheese who would drink mass amount of booze and violently attack the mediocrity of our society… lovely stuff. Oh and predator…. the original predator is a cinematic masterpiece…

I hope you are still showing off your killer dance moves? As we grow older, not all of us grow up, just the way it should be!
We will give it our usual 60%. If people expect more, they are fooling themselves. But yes, I’ll dance, I’ll shake my can, I’ll flick sweat on the crowd and I’ll come and get all Patrick Swayze with only the most sensual members of the audience. Some shit just never changes. Growing up is for chumps… just like wearing pants on a Sunday… FOR CHUMPS!!!

Anything else?
I’m going to go watch Dirty Dancing and Predator now.
