Surround Sounds Festival 2024 is set to delight music lovers of all ages and preferences and recognise our region’s unique musical and cultural heritage.

Following a month of celebrating the biggest names and newest faces in Australian music last year, the Surround Sounds music festival is looking to return in 2024, with the City of Greater Geelong seeking an experienced Event Producer to design and deliver it.

Building on the 2022 event, Surround Sounds Festival 2024 will feature musicians and artists across a range of genres and celebrate the region’s love of music and creativity.

Slated to run from Friday 26 April to Sunday 5 May 2024, the creative event will elevate music, sound and design across Greater Geelong and strengthen our reputation as a live entertainment hub, while supporting our entertainment, hospitality, and tourism industries.

An Expression of Interest (EOI) process is underway to find a suitably qualified and experienced consultant/s who will establish the festival as a major cultural event in the lead up to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Surround Sounds Festival 2024 is tied to our region’s long-term goals to expand and support live music, arts and culture.

This major initiative supports the region’s 30-year Clever and Creative vision and the Council’s 10-year Arts and Cultural Strategy by fostering a clever and creative city-region that has a thriving arts and cultural community.

Geelong’s month-long Surround Sounds Festival ends on a high, reinvigorating our live music scene

The City is looking for an Event Producer who has a keen interest in furthering the goals of the community and Council, and creating an inclusive, memorable and impactful creative event.

Applicants will have experience in Event Design and Delivery, an understanding of music and the wider creative industries and curatorial frameworks, local government priorities and planning, and commissioning models.

“I encourage creatives from Greater Geelong and across Australia to consider applying for the role of Event Producer,” says Mayor Trent Sullivan.

“Surround Sounds Festival 2024 is set to delight music lovers of all ages and preferences, recognise our region’s unique musical and cultural heritage, and attract visitors to our region.

“The role is an amazing opportunity to be part of something big in a UNESCO Creative City of Design that will bring joy to community members and support the music and creative industries, which have done it tough during the pandemic.”

The impact of Surround Sounds on the City of Greater Geelong was significant in 2022, with a total of 840 musicians performed 90 events, in 35 different venues, to over 14,000 people, from Thursday 7 April to Sunday 8 May.

You can view the EOI online. Applications close at 2:00pm on Thursday 13 April 2023.
