The Australian International Airshow is back and returning to Avalon with a BANG this March

A rite of passage for every Geelong local, the Avalon Australian International Airshow returns March 3 - 5.

The Australian International Airshow (AIRSHOW 2023), the largest airshow in the Southern Hemisphere, will return to Victoria’s Avalon Airport from Friday 3 March, with a spectacular three-day aviation event showcasing spectacular military and civil aerial displays, the aerospace industry, aviation careers and family entertainment.

“The Australian International Airshow is a three-day event of aviation, with everything from the latest Royal Australian Air Force and US Air Force supersonic fighter aircraft to helicopters, aerobatics teams, skydivers and wingwalkers in the air, and great displays, food and family-friendly entertainment on the ground,” said Justin Giddings, CEO of Geelong based Airshow 2023 organiser AMDA Foundation.

Kicking off at 2.00pm on Friday 3 March, the famous Night Alight Show will feature night-time flying aerobatics, a spectacular laser show, fireworks and the renowned Wall of Fire. One of the few evening airshows in the world, this is the perfect opportunity to bring the kids, pack a picnic rug and nibbles, sit under the stars and enjoy a spectacular show that can only be seen at Avalon.

Gates open at 8.00am on Saturday and Sunday, with both days featuring extensive air displays from the latest thundering jet fighters, strike aircraft and heavy-lift giants, joined by the Royal Australian Air Force’s Roulettes precision aerobatics team and the US Air Force F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team. New for 2023, the Republic of Korea Air Force Black Eagles jet team, flying their Korean T-50 supersonic aircraft, will make their first Australian appearance, after winning display awards at overseas events such as the 2022 Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT).

To celebrate the return after a four-year hiatus, for the first time ever the AIRSHOW 2023 is offering FREE general admission for anyone aged 15 years and under.

There is more to the Airshow than air displays, with plenty to see and do including walking through modern and historic aircraft, checking out classic cars, watching intense drone races, being amazed at the skills of trained military dogs, exploring the Tech Zone’s STEM related activities (think virtual reality experiences), and the new Kids Zone where the little ones can chill out in a temperature-controlled facility with fun aviation related activities.

There are ticket categories to accommodate a wide variety of needs; general admission is perfect for those who want to roam the site all day or bring their own foldable chair or picnic rug to watch all the action at a place of their choosing. If you prefer a reserved seat in a grandstand, Gold Pass might be the best choice for you. There are also options for those who want to wine and dine in a luxurious glass-front air-conditioned chalet with gourmet meals and beverages for hours.
