“Stop calling us a chick band”: Unapologetically themselves, Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers to perform live at the Bowl

Known for their raucous live performances that even broken feet can’t deter, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are primed to unleash their high-octane energy on the ‘I Love You Album Tour,’ treating audiences to their signature punk rock mayhem. If you’ve missed their sold-out Pretty Good For A Girl Band EP tour last year, fear not – this is your chance to catch them live and unfiltered.

Leading the charge is their latest single and video, ‘I Used To Be Fun,’ a poppy punk rock track dripping with singalongs and infectious riffs. The song delves into the evolving concept of fun as one grows older, reminiscing the days of wild nights and social prowess. Singer Anna Ryan reflects on the changing dynamics of fun and the nostalgia for the days of carefree adventures. The video, a creation of drummer Neve Van Boxsel, captures the essence of the song with captivating backdrops across Naarm/Melbourne.

With their debut album ‘I Love You,’ Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers venture into new sonic territory, pushing the boundaries of their punk rock roots. Produced by Oscar Dawson, the album showcases their versatility and depth across 12 tracks, taking listeners on a wild ride of emotions. From the bubblegum love anthems like ‘I Love You’ and ‘Salt’ (ft. The Grogans) to hard-hitting punk anthems like ‘I Don’t Want It’ and ‘Lights Out,’ the band leaves no genre unexplored. The debut single, ‘Lights Out,’ radiates empowerment and has found a devoted following on triple j and beyond.

Hailing from Canberra and formed during high school in 2019, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have honed their Riot Grrrl-inspired energy with a modern twist, creating a sound that resonates with fans across the globe. Their debut EP, ‘Pretty Good For A Girl Band’ (2022), took them to new heights, with the track ‘Girl Sports’ landing a spot on triple j’s Hottest 100. Their punk-rock prowess has earned them praise from the likes of The Guardian, frankie, Music Feeds, and more.

This fierce foursome, Anna Ryan, Scarlett McKahey, Jaida Stephenson, and Neve van Boxsel, have become astute voices of their generation, using their music to address issues facing women, non-binary individuals, and young people. Now, they are armed with ‘I Love You,’ a fearless statement of their musical growth and message to the world.
