Held in August year after year, the annual Surf Coast Arts Trail is usually loaded with every form of art you can think of.
The event usually sees artists, studios and galleries opening their doors and inviting guests to explore pottery, jewelry-making, blacksmithing, painting, woodwork and so much more, offering inspiration and insight into particular artworks by physically seeing the artist in their studio.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Surf Coast Shire Council has announced that artists participating in this year’s Surf Coast Arts Trail will showcase their work virtually.
Taking in the format of a series of smaller events that will be spaced out over several weeks, the first instalment is set to be staged in June, with events to include interactive classes, workshops, virtual studio tours, performances and discussions.
This year’s theme is Physical Distance/Social Connection, and the Surf Coast Arts Trail are calling on artists to create a body of work that is both important and uniquely relevant to these times, encouraging individual and collaborative contributions from creatives beyond the visual arts this year including writers, musicians, poets and designers.
Applications are still open and all creatives are encouraged to enter. There is no registration free.
Surf Coast creatives are invited to indicate how they might like to participate in this year’s program Surf Coast Arts Trail 2020 via the registration form here.
