Having screened its first film in 1928, the historic Regent Cinemas Ballarat has rolled its final film.
Sad news today for Ballarat as the historic Regent Cinemas Ballarat closes doors, effective immediately.
This morning the website, which is normally filled with sessions for the most popular cinematic pictures, simply reads “No session times available”. Those with prior bookings for birthdays and reserved functions have all been notified of the immediate closure.

The news was confirmed late last night as management posted the immediate ceasing of operations to social media, citing a number of factors contributed to the decision.
“We have arrived at this point after a great deal of consideration and as a result of a number of factors that have contributed to the heart-breaking decision to close the business,” the statement said.
“We would like to thank the Ballarat community for their support over the years.”
As one of the largest and most historic theatres in regional Victoria, with almost 2,000 seats in stalls and balcony levels as designed by Melbourne architects Arthur W. Purnell and Cedric H. Ballantyne, Regent Cinemas Ballarat has screened thousands of movies across it’s nearly 100 year stint.
The move comes just days ahead of the term two school holidays, where films Inside Out 2, Garfield Movie, Despicable Me 4 and IF were all expected to be hot picks for the family.
