Having just serenaded the Sofar Sounds Geelong crowd over the weekend alongside Shannen James, Melbourne/Moggs Creek artist Seb Szabo drops delightful diddy 'Perfect Symmetry'.

A snapshot of his time in London in his first-ever writing session with Matt McGuffie (Tia Gostelow, Ivey), ‘Perfect Symmetry’ captures the crisp, charismatic charm of Seb Szabo.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

With a coolness acquired, likened to that of the Oli and Louis of Lime Cordiale, and a Springsteen-swarve, Szabo leads ‘Perfect Symmetry’ in with a punchy crowd-induced chant underscored by slivers of saxophone that only builds as the song evolves. The inclusion of shimmering sound effects matched with the upbeat guitar lines and bass groove makes this single an instant live show love.

The single follows on from 2023’s ‘she’s a mirror’, and ‘Leaning On You (Wrecking Ball)’ which have become crowd favourites during his live shows, including last weekends Sofar Geelong, and his backyard pop up shows on the Surf Coast. The Moggs Creek/Melbourne-raised, California-born songwriter has been a welcome addition to the local Geelong music scene, collaborating with local artists to make up his backing bank as well as building his team of music professionals including working with creative content queen, Lucinda Goodwin.  He has also played on local festival stages including Queenscliff Music Festival.

Outside of his Geelong presence, Szabo cut his teeth on Melbourne’s thriving songwriter circuit and supporting San Cisco at the end of university. He released debut EP Staring Out the Windows in 2021, accumulating 100,000+ streams, gaining Triple J Unearthed’s acclaim and duetting with Gretta Ray on single ‘Twice Over’. A relentless live performer, he has supported artists such as San Cisco, Steph Strings and Cap Carter on some of Victoria’s biggest stages including The Corner Hotel and Fed Square, in addition to QMF. He has also ventured over international waters having toured the USA and UK. His online social media presence has also garnered attention from personality Abbie Chatfield and is only continuing to grow.

In celebration of ‘Perfect Symmetry’ Seb Szabo and his enigmatic band will be taking to the stage for a hometown show at the Bergy Bandroom, with support from Angus Legg on Thursday 16 May.
