Otway Oktoberfest

Craft beer, bratwurst, slap dancing, yodelling and dudes in lederhosen. These are all the alluring elements of the Otway Oktoberfest – however the mention of craft beer alone was enough to get our taste buds tingling.

This year, Otway Oktoberfest is trying something different, featuring 10 craft breweries from around the region and essentially creating a mini craft beer festival. This will include the likes of Forrest Brewing, Rogue Wave, Red Duck, Bells Beach Brewing, Crowes Nest, Southern Bay, Cockies Beer, Flying Horse, Bellarine Brewing, Forbidden Fruit Cider and Prickly Moses. Perfect not only for lovers of beers, but for the beer connoisseurs, looking for something a bit different, yet equally as delicious this Oktoberfest.

Prickly Moses head brewer, Luke Scott says they wanted to showcase all the amazing craft beers from the region in celebration of the events ninth year.

“This year’s Otway Oktoberfest will allow the punters to taste a heap of local craft beers, without having to travel around to each brewery. It’ll be like a mini craft beer festival right here in the Otways,” Scott says.

“Us brewers are also going to get together and create a collaboration brew specially for the event. We’ll throw around some ideas and create something really unique that will only be available on the day, so that’ll be something to look out for as well.”

As something for the home brewers, there is also a Home Brewers Competition being run, with a prize pool valued at over $500 for the best tasting brew determined by beer professionals.

Of course it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without live oompah music, a yodelling competition, a ton of delicious Bavarian food and prizes for best dressed. Topping it off with brewery tours, talks and taste master-classes, and you’re in for one hell of a day!
