Original Sundays is Geelong’s new weekly local series embracing original live music

Lash78

The series will kick off with a powerful all-female lineup on Sunday, July 3.

Renowned Melbourne-based national booking agency Amber Mic – home to some of Australia’s original, grassroots artists – and local venue Beavs Bar – the go-to place to listen to some acoustic original singer-songwriters – have teamed up to treat the region to a feast of live original music over the next six months.

Funded and supported by Creative Victoria, Amber Mic and Beav’s Bar will be injecting vibrancy, performance and live music back into the local scene by hosting a series of original live music Sunday Sessions at Beav’s Bar.

Dubbed ‘Original Sundays’, the weekly series will see a mix of established and emerging artists perform free gigs at Beavs, with multi-genre sets of original music. From July through to January next year, every Sunday will see three Geelong/Surf Coast singer and songwriters performing live original music across multiple genres including folk, country, blues, indie, pop, rock and soul, to name but a few.

And while the event series will see Beavs utilised to its full potential for punters to discover new and established artists, putting it on the map as an original live music venue in Geelong, the series will also provide crucial opportunities for local Geelong artists to showcase their original music, support local arts and engage the local community.

The exciting series will kick off on Sunday, July 3, hosting a jam-packed night of Geelong’s fiercest female artists and bands.

Bringing women to the front, the powerful all-female lineup will feature singer/songwriters Xyla Haigh, Bec Goring and Lash78, all renowned talents across the region.

Inspired by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Bon Iver and Lana Del Rey, Xyla Haigh is a Geelong artist whose sound is best described as melancholic folk-pop. Typically spending Friday nights getting lost in layers of bedroom loops and endless contemplation, Xyla’s songs express the confusion and angst around being a twenty-something woman and navigating life, love and all the shit in between. Expect immersive instrumentation, delicate chilling melodies, vulnerable lyrics alongside soaring vocals and a raw delivery that will serve the ultimate gut punch.

Also on the lineup is Bec Goring, a local who has become one of Australia’s most versatile and hard working singer songwriters to emerge in the last decade.Nominated for ‘Live Guitarist of the Year’ in 2020 by the National Live Music Awards, she has an unique sound and captivating performance style. Bec has collaborated with artists such as Gordi and Merpire, and supported some of Melbourne’s iconic artists Alex Lahey (‘Best of Luck’ tour), Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Liz Stringer and Bec Sandridge. Her debut studio album ‘Beware’ (2020 release) produced by Jono Steer (Angie McMahon & Ainslie Wills) reveals the voice of an honest, and comforting songwriter, paying homage to the big names of Blues/Rock and Roll music.

Rounding out the lineup is Geelong sister rock-pop duo Lash78, comprised of Lauren and Sheridan Harvey. Performing consistently and having some form of involvement in the music industry since they were just seven and eight years old, the sisters have built a solid reputation over the past 16 years for their knockout harmonies and captivating, fun and energetic performances.

Driven by passion and dedication, their sound is guitar-driven, organic rock-pop, with edgy elements and powerhouse female vocals. Over the past few years, Lauren and Sheridan have collaborated with songwriters in Europe and The United States both virtually and in-person where possible, culminating in some amazing tracks that demand to be heard. After the independent release of their debut EP ‘Who’ (reminiscent of Swedish First Aid Kit), the sisters have been on the road performing in front of thousands of music lovers, gaining a loyal fan base and building a solid platform for the success of their brand, whilst also continuing to expand on their already extensive catalogue of original music.

Their music is brilliant, but it’s their stage presence and lively personas that truly captivate audiences. You’ll just have to head to the gig to really see what we mean.
