There’s a Glee Club coming to Geelong in July, where you can drink while you sing hits from ABBA

The incredible legacy ABBA gave the world is celebrated next month with an epic singalong session at Beavs Bar.

Whether you’re a first-timer or you feel confident belting out all the notes for all the parts in ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Mamma Mia’, Geelong’s next Glee Club event is where You can dance, You can jive, having the time of your life, no matter what your confidence level or skill.

Glee Club, Melbourne’s famous singing group is coming to Geelong once again in July, this time with a huge sing-a-long to ABBA – one of the most iconic Swedish pop bands of all time – on Sunday, July 10 2022 at Beavs Bar.

If you haven’t heard of Glee Club before, it’s essentially like being in a choir, without the commitment of being in a choir. You don’t have to audition, no solos or pressure – and yes, you can even drink while you sing at the top of your lungs, very much like a regular Saturday night on the Beavs dancefloor.

Vicky Jacobs leads the sessions from the piano and has developed a reputation for being able to get everyone to sing with confidence from the most nervous new singers to Australia’s top stars. She has worked in the music departments of hit shows such as Moulin Rouge, Come From Away, Jersey Boys and Wicked, but loves nothing more than getting a group of people singing their hearts out. For years now, Vicky has been running Glee events at pub and bar venues from Melbourne’s CBD to Yarraville, Brighton, Hobart and now, in more recent months, Geelong too.

As Vicky says, “the thing about Glee Club is that you always leave feeling better than when you started. I love feeling the temperature of the room change – from sometimes a little bit of nerves at the start to everyone belting out the tunes and clinking glasses at the end!”

Throughout the singalong, Vicky injects a load of fun, personality and encouragement into the club. Creating an entirely judgement-free zone, attendees in Geelong will be tackling as many ABBA hits as they can fit into just over an hour, from ‘Take a Chance On Me’, ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’, and ‘Chiquitita’, to ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Waterloo’, ‘Money, Money, Money’, ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘The Winner Takes It All’.

And the best part is you don’t need the vocal stylings of Frida and Agnetha either. Your voice could be fit, rusty or never-brought-out-in-public-before. If you find the harmonies tricky, Vicky encourages attendees to just sing any note they like or have another sip of wine if prefered.

If you’re thinking you want to join a choir (that’s more fun than a choir), Glee will definitely find you somebody to sing with.

Bring some ABBA-loving buddies or come on your own, this singalong will leave you with a smile on your face and Dancing Queen stuck in your head!

Glee Club ABBA Sing-a-long goes down on Sunday, July 10 2022 from 5pm at Beavs Bar, Geelong. You can book tickets here, or for more info, head here
