Olivia Newton-John, star of Grease and Grammy Award winning artist, has died aged 73

Tributes from across the globe are flowing for the Australian screen and music icon with John Travolta paying tribute to his Grease co-star, "Your impact was incredible. I love you so much."

Olivia Newton-John, British-born Australian pop singer and star of hit musical Grease, has passed away at 73 years old.

The multi-platinum singer and actor’s death was confirmed by Newtown-John’s husband John Easterling in a post to the singer’s official social media accounts.

“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” the post read.

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).

“Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.”

The pop star, who was best known for her lead role in the film musical ‘Grease’ as beloved Sandy alongside John Travolta, devoted her later life to activism in support of cancer research. In 2017, Newton-John revealed the breast cancer she had first suffered in 1992 had returned and had spread to her spine. She also revealed she’d had a second cancer diagnosis in 2013 but had kept it quiet.

Music and film stars and family and friends from across the globe are paying tribute to Newtown John, a superstar in artistry and life, including Kylie Minogue, Newton-John’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, Sir Rod Stewart, and many more.

Travolta posted a heartfelt message on social media, writing: “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
