‘Too Soon’ delivers gritty guitar riffs deliciously paired with cinematic string arrangements, setting the stage for Renner’s raw and reflective lyrics. The track is a meditation on the complexity of moving forward while coming to terms with past mistakes and embracing hidden aspects of oneself. As Renner explains, the song was born from her personal experience of stepping out of lockdown into a world that felt both alien and overwhelming.

“I stepped out of lockdown into a life that was vastly different from the one I left behind. It was a wild shift — I basically threw everything away to start fresh, not realising that your past doesn’t just disappear when you move away from it.”

‘Too Soon’ marks the final single ahead of Don’t Hurry the Dance, a record that Renner has described as a “labour of love” and one that has been years in the making. The album is a vibrant collection of prog-pop tracks that explore moments of personal growth, self-discovery, and resilience in the face of life’s profound changes. With its eclectic soundscape and experimental approach, the album invites listeners into a series of unique sonic worlds, each track carefully crafted to evoke both intimacy and wonder.

The overarching theme of Don’t Hurry the Dance is patience—the understanding that the most meaningful things in life take time to build, and that richness, whether emotional or artistic, requires the space to evolve.

Renner has worked with a roll-call of Australian and international artists including Angus and Julia Stone, Missy Higgins, Remi Wolf, G Flip, Bob Evans, Alex Lahey, G Flip, Killing Heidi, Tim Rogers, WILSN and Olympia. Additionally, she has been a keyboardist in the beloved ‘RocKwiz’ house band for ten years.

Fans of Clio’s work can look forward to the full album release on 28 February with Too Soon serving as the perfect taste of what’s to come.
