The new matchmaking service - Tourism Jobs Bank - aims to help tourism and hospitality businesses across Geelong, Bellarine and Great Ocean Road find employees for summer.
It’s no doubt you’ve witnessed the influx of recruitment ads popping up all over social media as the tourism and hospitality sector continues to face a critical worker shortage, exacerbated by the pandemic with the loss of international students and backpackers. Although the industry is thrilled to be able to open back up, business owners now have a time-consuming job ahead of them – finding and recruiting staff.
That’s where Tourism Jobs Bank comes in.
The new program aims to help tourism and hospitality businesses across Geelong, Bellarine and Great Ocean Road find employees and equally, help individuals find their perfect job within the industry. Tourism Jobs Bank also supports the businesses by best positioning them to recruit and offers free up-skilling opportunities to job seekers.

With a wealth of experience and determination, two Geelong powerhouses are driving this match-making process, Direct Recruitment’s Alela Pinto and Helena Metzke.
As an experienced business development professional who has a love for Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast, Alela is passionate about supporting businesses in the region through delivering sustainable staffing solutions. Alongside her experience and skills, Alela has the drive needed for the Tourism Jobs Bank project to thrive.
“I’m here to help our region prosper, especially in a post-lockdown world. Healthy living, early mornings and dips in the ocean are just a few of my favourite things. Geelong’s surf coast provides a fantastic lifestyle which allows me to do just that, an attractive proposition for those looking to move to the region, or seeking a more flexible job,” Alela said.

“I like to think of myself as a bit of a matchmaker in pairing people with their dream job and similarly, jobs with the right people. When I’m not at work, I like to spend my time with my fiancé and our cat, cosied up on the couch, or making my way through our incredible hospitality scene. I’m so happy that Geelong is the place I get to call home,” she said.
Essentially, Alela and Helena are committed to seeing hospitality and tourism businesses across the region thrive by connecting great people to great jobs – one match at a time.
The process is incredibly simple. You just head to the Tourism Jobs Bank website and complete a short form and from there, either Alela or Helena will be in touch for a quick chat over the phone to get to know a bit about you and what you’re looking for in a job.
From here, you complete a relaxed Zoom interview, before getting to meet with the hiring manager of the role for an in-person interview. It’s as easy as that!
This way, Alela and Helena are providing a connection between the candidates and the businesses that excite them, as well as supporting both parties throughout the entire process.

Each person placed in a position through the program will receive a welcome pack and will also go into a draw to win an experience for two within the region. With prizes including helicopter flights, hot spring getaways and luxury accommodation, the winner will be able to really unwind after the silly season.
