Make isolation better with these alcoholic takeaway and delivery services in the Geelong region

For those days that you need the bar to come to you.

Here we are again Victoria.

And while it’s more crucial than ever to protect yourself and to be considerate of others by locking down at home, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice glass of red with your spaghetti bolognese, or a cheeky beer while you’re sitting out in the backyard getting your 10 minutes of Vitamin D.

Thankfully, there are some entrepreneurial types amidst the chaos who came up with the idea of delivering booze straight to our doorsteps, alongside some of our favourite venues offering up takeaway cocktails and tipples for when it all gets a bit much.

To save you the trouble, we’ve narrowed down the list of places that provide this magical service.

Bottles and Barrels

Bottles & Barrels have long been a favourite of ours. If not for their coffee and delicious brunch options, then for their carefully curated selection of boutique wine and craft brews. Thankfully, we can still get our regular fix of the latter with their delivery service.

If you’re feeling wine, you have the option of twin packs or six-packs of white wine, red wine, or a mixed selection. By the looks of it, it seems the team are in charge of what wine you get, but their recommendations are always 11/10 so we have no doubt you’ll be getting the best of the best.

If beer is more your style, you’ve got the options of a slab of Stone and Wood Pacific Ale, a slab of Moon Dog lager, Bertie cider or you can get a six-pack or slab of mixed craft beer – perfect if you’re feeling adventurous!

Boasting free delivery to the Geelong area, any orders placed before 3pm will be delivered that evening, while orders after 3pm will be delivered the next day. All you need to do is place your order online or call the team on 0404 169 806 to organise.

Blackman’s Brewery

Local legends and creators of good beer for everyone, Blackman’s Brewery are jumping back onto their delivery service, spawned from the interest of keeping the beer brewing (phew!) and their awesome team working.

For this snap lockdown, they’ve announced a ‘Snap Lockdown Session Box’ which is sure to get you through the days at home. In it you’ll find four Mervyn Pale Ales, four Needs More Idaho 7 IPA and four Juicy Juicy Bang Bang Double IPL. It’s $65 delivered straight to your door. Order by 3pm for the same day delivery service.

Big yes.

The Cocktail Cart

Founded by Geelong born and bred Alistair Bullock, The Cocktail Cart is the next best thing to having a live-in bartender, curating DIY cocktail kits with all of the ingredients to make recipes, developed by Alistair himself.

The hero to your future boozy brunches and Saturday nights in, you can currently order the classics like the Cosmopolitan or Espresso Martini, and new drinks like the Ginger Yuzu and Spice It Up.

Designed to serve six people, each box comes with Australian ingredients required to make your chosen cocktail. You’ll find alcohol and liqueur, sugar syrups, fruit, mixers, cold brew coffee (for espresso martini), garnishes, a 15/30ml Japanese jigger and, of course, a recipe card.

All you’ll need are things like cocktail shakers, strainers, glasses, ice, and a citrus juicer to expertly create your cocktails.

Check it all out via the website.

Barwon Heads Hotel

Good news for those out in Barwon Heads – the BHH has jumped on board and are offering free home delivery for the local community while their venue is closed.

You’ll be able to shop beers, wines, spirits, pre-mix, soft drinks, ships and nuts. All you have to do call them on 5254 2201 to order. Deliveries will be made between 2pm and 5pm daily. Last orders at 3pm.

Union Cellars

One of Geelong’s most well-loved wine bars, Union Street Cellars, has become a famous retreat for local wine lovers in the past few years. It’s even received national recognition, having recently being named one of the country’s best wine venues for 2020. Led by the dynamic duo Andy Leigh and Lewis Phiddian, the guys have replicated their CBD venue, and have now curated an extensive new and interesting wine, beer and spirit offering for another space in Geelong West, orchestrating the perfect balance of expertise and affable hospitality.

Lucky for us, they’ll be open all weekend. With two locations you can drop in for some takeaway bottles or if you can’t get to them, the team will be on the road delivering some of their best drops to Geelong, Bellarine Peninsula and Surfcoast FOR FREE so get your orders in online, instore or call on 5221 6291.

Chas Cole Cellars

Our good friends at Chas Cole have always provided a quality selection of booze and damn fine service, and now they’ve jumped on the delivery train.

Simply call the team on (03)52233322 to place your order and pay over the phone. If your order is placed prior to 4pm, they’ll even get it to you that same day! And it’s completely contactless. Yes, yes and yes. It’s even free delivery for orders over $50.

If you prefer takeaway but don’t feel comfortable coming in store, their team can also bring your order out to your car.

Wah Bah

These guys were quick to pick up on the allure of takeaway cocktails, slinging these babies since the first lockdown.

So far, there are six creations on the menu alongside some rotating specials. For $15 each, you can indulge in the Espresso Quarantini (with Manuka honey vodka, Licor 43, Little Dripper & Coffee liquor), the Licor 43 Sour, the Strawberries & Cream, or their famous Tokyo Moon made with Blue caracao, Pavan & Apple juice. There’s also a Garden Mojito made with Raspberry Gin AND the Great Ocean Berry complete with Raspberry Gin, Strawberry liquor, lemon juice & fresh strawberries.

And each cocktail is equivalent to two standard drinks so that in itself is a big win.

You can also get bottles of wine and a few select ciders and beers too.

Barwon Heads Winestore

The Barwon Heads Wine Store is an independent wine merchant, offering a vast selection of product and bringing the finest wines, spirits and beer to the Bellarine Peninsula.

Another one for those out in Barwon Heads, they’ll also be offering free delivery for the weekend. They’re even offering FaceTime tours of their shelves if you’re not quite sure what you’re after and of course, are available to chat on the phone if you need some guidance. How good?!

If you’re within 5km, you can also pop in for click and collect daily from 12pm to 5pm.

ALMA

Geelong really scored big when chef Jesse Hughes (formerly Vue Grand Queenscliff) opened up ALMA, a contemporary South American shared-style restaurant back in 2017. In what was Hughes’ first venture, ALMA has become one of Geelong’s best dining destinations, earning a solid reputation for their South American flavours featuring the best produce served in an unadulterated way, edgy styling and exceptional service.

Thankfully you can still get your Alma fix throughout lockdown, and even indulge in some delicious takeaway cocktails too. For $15, you can choose from the Pisco Sour, the Pomegranate Sour, or the Espresso Martini.

You can order online or call them on 0498012622.

Alisitos

Alisitos is a Mexican Baja Bar and Grill in Torquay and is an absolute hidden gem. Located on Bell Street, the hot spot is known for slinging authentic Mexican food and cocktails for dinner six days a week. With six (yes six!) different type of taco offerings, as well as burritos and quesadillas for the hungrier folk.

And now their full menu is also available to take away, adding takeaway margs to the list. Choose from a Margarita jug, or a Fiesta kit which includes a Margarita jug, 2 cocktail glasses, lime and salt.

You can order online here for pick up.

The Whiskery

Located in Drysdale, The Whiskery is one of the best rustic spaces to have a cocktail, gin or whisky any day of the week.

Thankfully for those out that side of town, they’ll be operating as a bottle shop over the weekend to make your iso nights fun and flavoursome with their famous gins.

f you like your gin straight (hats off to you my friend!) Bellarine Distillery recommends their signature Teddy & The Fox. A citrusy sipping gin with botanicals such as the classic juniper, lemon myrtle, orange, coriander, star anise, and orris root. So delish! Definitely a great choice for getting through lockdown.

The Whiskery is located at 2 Scotchmans Rd, Drysdale

The Mex

The Mex has made a name for itself as one of the most iconic restaurant and bars along the Bellarine Peninsula. Located in Ocean Grove, The Mex has been delivering delicious Mexican cuisine to the Ocean Grove locals for years.

With an extensive menu of tacos, burritos and fajitas, you’re spoilt for choice through lockdown, especially with their frozen margarita special that gets you a margy for $10 with any food order.

Oh and they’re delivering to select places on the Bellarine this weekend if they’re out of your 5km radius.

Liquorland

Joining the crew, UberEats is now offering an alcohol home delivery service, with Liquorland popping up as one of the top options. They’ve got all your usual suspects – Corona, Furphy, Great Northern, VB and Somersby ciders, a huge variety of wines, pre-mixed spirits, spirits, and even a selection of non-alcoholic bevvies.

To top it off you can even order a bag of ice if you feel like taking your isolation into the backyard with a hammock and an esky. Simply order through the UberEats app.

*We do recommend supporting local before the bigs guys if you can.

Dan Murphy’s

Your local Dan’s offers an ‘On Demand’ service for their entire range, letting you choose what you want, and when you want it delivered – in-store hours of course.

Whether that be ASAP or in a couple of days, it’s completely up to you. Please note, they are experiencing a delay in processing orders atm.

You can check it out here.

BWS on demand

BWS also offers an ‘On Demand’, you can get it scheduled up to 7 days before you’ll be needing. All you need to do is set your store and find your favourite products, checkout and tell them where and when you need your drinks (and if you want them chilled) and then wait! You can also track them with a live driver tracker, so you can see how soon you’ll be able to hold your new baby.

Naked Wines

Now, let’s get Naked. Just kidding. Naked Wines are an online wine store, and although they aren’t located in Geelong, they’re still good in helping you kickstart your winter wine stash! You can’t tell me you’ve never gotten a $100 off voucher from them in the mail at one stage of your life. They have a HUGE range to choose from, and with a minimum of six bottles per order, you’ll be set for the night, or the week… whatever you decide. Oh, and while the program works off a subscription basis, go and order your first box, and cancel later if you struggle with commitment. You’re welcome.

Good Pair Days

This one’s a little bit different, but still makes the cut for its delivery service. Good Pair Days is a digital-first, direct-to-consumer monthly wine service! Specialising in product discovery and tailoring, they couple expert curation with tech-based personalisation to pair their customers with the perfect wines for their palates, making them one of the most advanced wine retailer in the market.

The process is relatively easy. First, you take a palate quiz to uncover three wines paired with your personal tastes, and then their team of wine explorers choose only the best value bottles, starting at $15. From here you can either take their suggestions or make your own selections from all of their wines. They will then deliver them to your door (Australia wide), along with tasting cards, food pairings, matching recipes and surprise gift or two. It’s brilliant.
