“A lot of our musical influences and idols come from Australia and we’re excited to perform in the same communities of which those bands are a part. We are a band from the middle of the US, trying to capture a sunny, surfy, coastal sound so we wanted to celebrate our new release in a place that has all of those qualities. We’re looking forward to performing, meeting people, and getting a taste of Australian culture.”
Following the success of their debut LP, One Way Ticket To Midnight, released in July 2023, Mainland Break has dropped another gem with ‘Promises.’ The track, exploring the aftermath of a relationship, weaves a tapestry of contemplative vocals, a Joy Division-esque bass line, and shimmering guitar leads that build to a cathartic crescendo.
Recorded by Mark Anderson at Cowboy Cowabunga Recordings in Colorado (known for his work with John Oates and Nathaniel Rateliff), mixed by Joey Oaxaca (whose credits include White Reaper and Starchild), and mastered by Dave Cooley for Elysian Masters (notable for his work with DIIV and M83), ‘Promises’ exudes a level of production sophistication that matches its musical depth. Originally recorded during the One Way Ticket To Midnight sessions, the band decided it deserved a solo release due to its unique tone.
As the Australian indie scene continues to thrive with bands like Floodlights, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and RVG, Mainland Break finds themselves drawn to the vibrant atmosphere Down Under. ‘Promises’ brings a blend of post-punk and pub-rock sounds that resonate with the Melbourne indie scene.
The band, admirers of the Australian musical landscape, is eager to immerse themselves in the culture they’ve long admired from afar during their 8-date tour in February 2024.
