Two and a half years later, the admiration and love for Zoe Stanley continues to live on.
Entitled ‘Like Nothing Else’, two Melbourne based musicians – Aaron Schembri and Stefan West – have paid tribute to the five-year old girl through sweet melodies intertwined with warm vocals.
“The song ‘Like Nothing Else’ came together quite naturally for me, as over the last few years cancer has claimed the lives of some family members and friends,” said Aaron Schembri.
Easily enjoyed by listeners, the acoustics of the guitar doubled with lyrics such as;
And I see the artworks sitting on the shelf
And all the good times that we’ve had
I know you’re here watching over us
I miss you kid like nothing else
The song captures unforgettable memories and the presence of Zoe that will forever be adored.
A story well-known in Geelong, Zoe was a cheerful, artistic and brave young girl, who was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of brain cancer called Giant Cell Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).
In spite of her courage, after a nine-month battle, March 2017 marked the loss of a daughter, but the arrival of a new angel.
Zoe’s Fight, an Australian charity that has raised funds to aid in child brain cancer research, follows the legacy of Zoe by honouring her memory and the promise made to continue to fight for a cure.
For Penny Stanley – mother of Zoe, dealing with the loss of their daughter has never been easy. Though, their motivation and willingness to find a cure for brain cancer comes from Zoe’s story and the support of their local community.
“Words never come easy for me because often I’m still numb. It’s been two and a half years since our beautiful five-year-old Zoe gained her angel wings from her battle against brain cancer. I know that she would be so proud of the community’s support, just like I am, to help raise awareness and funds so that we can help end this insidious disease,” Penny Stanley says.
Just in time for Carrie Bickmore’s project Beanies 4 Cancer, which raised a huge $5 million dollars to brain cancer research, ‘Like Nothing Else’ is available to listen on streaming sites such as Spotify and Apple Music.
