Let us introduce you to the mentors and participants of ‘Cultivate’ – the first women-only leadership program for music industry leaders

Music Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Government is thrilled to announce the very first recipients and mentors of the inaugural pilot ‘Cultivate’, Victoria’s new initiative for mid-level to established women leaders in the state’s contemporary music sector. The program was officially launched Wednesday 20 March at The Corner Hotel with an all-day workshop including talks by keynote speakers Mrs Chloe Shorten and Director and CEO of ACMI Katrina Sedgwick, and hosted by Australian music industry veteran Leanne de Souza.

An overwhelming amount of applications left project manager Sarah DeBorre and the programs reference group with the hard task of shortlisting before selecting the first participants of the newly created leadership coaching program for women in the Victorian music sector.

Supported by the Minister For Women, the ‘Cultivate’ program aims to foster the development of some of the state’s key decision makers, business owners, and industry leaders within the music sector, by partnering them up with CEOs, senior role holders and experienced mentors to support and guide the advancement of their careers. “The women selected for this program are leaders in our music industry who possess the potential to influence and empower other women. Throughout this program, they will attend masterclasses, get personalised leadership coaching, be supported by an experienced mentor, and build a strong network to help them take the next step in their leadership,“ says Gabrielle Williams Minister For Women of the program.

“The Cultivate program is a genius idea and I couldn’t be more stoked and grateful to be a recipient alongside these inspiring woman paving paths in Australia. The incredible initiative will have a long-lasting impact on the music industry and be felt for the years to come. “Give a woman a fish, and you’ll feed her for a day. Teach a woman to fish, and you’ve fed her for a lifetime.” That’s the saying right?” says Dallas Frasca.

The extensive program offers each participant a one-on-one coaching package with Leadership Victoria in Executive Leadership Coaching, that aims to help facilitate behavioural and attitudinal shifts to enable both individuals and groups to overcome barriers to change and to realise their own potential and the potential of their organisation.

In addition to the Leadership Coaching, four specialised Masterclasses in Fundamentals and Foundations of Leadership, Frameworks to use in Leadership, Façade of your Leadership, Futureproofing your Leadership will be held between April and June and will be coached by Louise Thomson of Global People Two. Louise helps people understand their own and others’ personality, their own emotional intelligence, the effect of their conversational style on others and how to build the capability and confidence of their team to create effective workplaces and communities.

“Mentoring is a powerful tool that really makes a difference and I am so excited to be paired with the amazing Coco Eke from Bad Apples Music as part of the Cultivate Program. There is a lot we can discover together,” says Leonie Morgan, Consultant and Board Director.

The program was open for Victorian residents who identify as a woman and currently hold leadership or management positions at their place of employment within the contemporary music sector.

‘Cultivate’ Pilot Program 2019 will run from March to June this year.
