Z-Star Delta live at The Lost Ones Basement Bar

Being billed as a ‘Stripped Back’ event is still a surprise walking into the cosy venue to see an array of guitars, pedals, synths and a drum kit. The duo (Zee and Seb) of multi instrumentalists come with a reputation of epic live performances born out of touring as the full band/mothership Z-Star. However Zee does claim that they get even more rock than the mothership. The venue itself is eclectic as the musicians instruments. The relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff are matched by excellent drinks and cheeses, comfortable couches and the resident cat.

The set begins with the raw slow blues of ‘The Devils Relief’ which builds and layers with each moment, demonstrating the treat that the audience is in for tonight. Between calls for the audience to howl like wolves, Zee roaming through the audience to tell us a story in acapella and her dedicating a song to herself ‘I need a bit of therapy of my own tonight’ we learn to know more of the duos touring life and adventures. The first set ends with their upcoming single release of Screamin Jay Hawkins cover ‘I put a spell on you’, with epic kick work on the drums.

After the brief break the songs have a little bit more of an experimental feel, stories of Zee’s Trinidadian background and the promise of an ‘orgasmic finish to end’. Highlights of the 2nd set include the story of ‘Leatherface’ from Castlemaine on their first tour of Australia. True to their promise the duo are joined by the drummer from Z-Star Trinity and the final songs chorus ends with multiple group orgasms. To be seen to be believed, be sure to catch Zee in any of the 3 set ups whilst she is out here.
