Lagerstein

Known for their pirate-partying ways, we got the Lagerstein guys mid-party to have a quick chat about rum, good times and sailing the fair seas.

Hi Guys, thanks for taking the time to chat with Forte Magazine, how are you and what are you up to at the moment?

AHOY! No worries at all, we were actually just having a sneaky party, and you can’t have a party without rum, beer and Allens party-mix. I hope you guys are having a rocking party at Forte HQ!

I guess one thing we have to clarify first up, we know pirates to be quite partial to rum and we’ve seen being drunk for interviews isn’t all that uncommon. On a scale of sober to f*ck-eyed where are you?

On a scale of one to fuck-eyed, I’d say we are having a whale of a time.

We saw Jacob got a new tattoo in New Zealand, what other tattoos have you picked up on your travels? Got a favourite?

Ah the old tale of Jacob getting a tattoo. What a hilarious story! Now did you know that there is more than 1 Jacob in NZ? We had no idea either, so we actually got a video of a Jacob getting our tattoo, unfortunately it wasn’t Jacob, the most fiercest pirate in all of the Caribbean. Cpn Gregarrr has many a tattoos on his travels of the world: check Jake the Dog.

For your upcoming tour, quite a few of your gigs have a lot of supporting acts, what’s the process for you as a band on who makes the cut?

To be a support act of Lagerstein, bands have be prepared to join the most party night of the year. We have searched far and wide in our open land, and believe the bands we have chosen for the “All for Rum & Rum for All” tour, to be perfect. They better be ready for a beer bong from nowhere, doesn’t matter if they are onstage or not.

Pirates are known to spend months travelling across the seas, how do you guys fare on tour with each other?

We are always best of mates. There isn’t a time that goes by where we aren’t having a great time. Even when we were locked up in the Heathrow Airport and about to be deported for visa reasons, we changed the cell we were in into the party room, sang songs with the guards and just had a jolly good time!

Your Australian tour is for the upcoming release, All For Rum and Rum For All, which is three years on from the last release, how did you find the creation and production process of this one?

The change of members in the line up allowed us to up the ante from the Drink Til we Die sessions. Bringing in the live instruments into the recording process was an absolute game changer.

When it comes to sea shanties from the past, do you have a favourite at all?

Our favourite sea shanty at the moment is one of two, “Land Ho” by The Dreadcrew of Oddwood *kick* or “Africa” by Toto. What great tunes!

Recently fellow “themed” band The Beards have called it a day, saying that it’s a tough act to keep up. Do you think there will be a time Lagerstein will run its course/have you ever felt like The Beards have?

It’s a shame to hear about The Beards – we love that band. But we’re having too much fun at the moment and we can’t see us hanging up our pirate boots anytime soon.

Thanks again for taking the time to chat with us, are there any last words of wisdom you’d like to share with our readers?

If you are in town where we are playing, come up and say ‘Ahoy!’ and join in on the most party night of your lives.
