If you’ve entered 2021 revitalised and refreshed, with a new focus and a desire to learn some fresh new skills, we’ve found something that may help get the ball rolling on a cool new hobby that will, at the very least, give you something cool to talk about that’s not the pandemic.
And that my friends, is photography.
While it seems like recently, everyone has picked up a camera, flashed it around and called themselves photographers, the Geelong Gallery are hosting a fantastic new workshop that’s bound to help snap-happy high school students stand out from the herd and take truly unique and mesmerising images.
Taking to the Geelong Gallery on Tuesday January 19 from 10am, ‘Frame, compose, expose: photography workshop for teens’, the event is all about encouraging budding photographers to discover their living landscape.
Ran by local photographer Matt O’Donnell of Hails & Shine, the photography workshop focuses on inner-city urban and suburban landscapes and vignettes of man-made structures within our City.
Young snappers will be able to hear from Matt on how to frame, compose and expose before you venture out and capture your own urban landscape in the laneways of Geelong.
Regardless of whether you’re equipped with a second-hand 35mm film camera, your smartphone or you’ve gone and blown your savings on a Digital SLR Camera, there’s always more to learn in the world of photography – and this really is the perfect way to buff up your skillset before school returns.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own camera to this workshop and will be accompanied by a Geelong Gallery representative. This event is suitable for ages 12 to 16 years.
