Inspired by Netflix’s Squid Game, a new thrilling physical and intellectual game is heading to Australia next year

Meet Squiz Gamez Live - thrilling physical and intellectual challenges for major cash prizes.

Boasting technicolour sets, wild costumes and a wild plot, Netflix’s new dystopian Korean drama Squid Game is creating obsessives around the world, storming its way to the top of Netflix’s most-watched series ever (!) since its September release.

A combination of Hunger Games and Battle Royale mixed with some schoolyard games, the nine-part series is a compelling depiction of a nightmarish competition consisting of various children’s games in which the stakes couldn’t be any higher. The episode follows a group of desperately indebted Koreans who agree to compete to the death for a large cash prize – and if you fail, the consequence is death.

With a worldly obsession, the phenomenon has sparked a new Australian competition, the Squiz Gamez, taking place in capital cities next year, thanks to AMA Event Management.

The key takeaways

  • A new Australian competition, the Squiz Gamez, is taking place in capital cities next year
  • Participants will be recruited to play a series of games for a life-changing cash prize
  • Unlike those competing in the show and luckily for you, your life is not on the line if you lose.

Prefer an escape room? Here are our picks for 10 of Victoria’s best escape rooms.

From 18 October to 26 November in 2022, participants will be recruited to play a series of games for a life-changing cash prize, kicking off in Sydney and taking to locations in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart and Adelaide.

All ticket holders will be sent a game card in February via AusPost and will need to call the secret number on the card to get the location details. If you are not selected as a contestant you can watch from the VIP lounge or exclusive online streaming portal.

Up to 2,000 contestants in four rounds will be recruited on the day to play thrilling physical and intellectual challenges, with 500 participants in each round. But they are recruited on the day in the arena.

Much like the series, contestants will be given a shirt with a contestant number to wear during the game and will be ‘eliminated’ throughout the event. I think it’s safe to say, the elimination process won’t be taken as literal as in the episodes with the event ensures this is a game of fun.

The last person standing in each round will then compete in the final to win the piggy with a whole tonne of cash! The winner will then be transported home in a stretch limo with their cash prize and up to seven friends.

VIP sections will be introduced in 2022, however, you must hold a general admission ticket to be able to upgrade to the VIP section.
