Heading to Geelong this February, 'Overflow' is Australia’s first-ever theatre production made by an all-trans and gender-non-conforming cast and creative team.

In a dazzling moment for the Geelong Arts Centre’s Season 2024, Overflow, a captivating one-woman play, is all set to take centre stage from February 8 to 10.

The theatre eagerly welcomes the Darlinghurst Theatre Company to The Open House theatre, bringing forth an exceptional performance that promises to make history.

Crafted by internationally acclaimed writer and leading trans voice Travis Alabanza, known for their work in “Burgerz,” Overflow promises to be an explosive journey into the world of sisterhood and public toilets. Breaking barriers, this marks Australia’s inaugural theatre production entirely fashioned by an all-trans and gender-non-conforming cast and creative team, a groundbreaking feat in the realm of Australian theatre.

Led by the talented Proud Gunggari, Lardil, and Kullilli Woman, Thea Raveneau (Rosie), the 70-minute performance dives deep into the often-overlooked place of Trans women in both the feminist movement and society at large. Overflow doesn’t shy away from engaging in complex and vital conversations, offering a poignant yet humorous exploration of women’s bathrooms, questioning who is allowed in and who is kept out.

Caught in a flooding toilet cubicle, Rosie finds herself determined not to be rescued again. As panic rises and help seems distant, she immerses herself in memories of bathroom encounters, from drunken heart-to-hearts by dirty sinks to friendships forged in front of crowded mirrors.

Directed by Dino Dimitriadis, Overflow truly offers a thought-provoking tour of women’s bathrooms, probing the boundaries of inclusion and exclusion.

After receiving acclaim at Sydney Festival 2024 and Midsumma Festival at Arts Centre Melbourne, Overflow now presents a historic moment in Australian theatre as part of Geelong Arts Centre’s SEASON 2024.
