Glide and Glow in Bendigo this winter school holidays

Words by Staff Writer

The wonder of winter has yet again encased Bendigo as the region transforms for the school holidays.

Each year Bendigo embraces the winter freeze and this school holiday’s is no different.

From this Friday 28 June to Sunday 14 July, Bendigo will once again be transformed into a winter wonderland as the iconic Hargreaves Mall becomes an ice skating rink, and the Electric Wonderland returns to the city’s stunning Rosalind Park.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

Get your skates on as Hargreaves Mall gets a makeover to become an outdoor, pop-up mobile ice skating rink. Titled ‘Stars on Ice’ the middle of the mall will feel like New York’s Rink at the Rockefella Centre as ice kings and queens glide around the rink. Thick coats, gloves and beanies are a must for this icy experience.

Over at the city’s Rosalind Park is an event full of electricity! The Bendigo winter tradition of Electric Wonderland returns for another year of excitement.

Featuring light installations that celebrate the Lunar Year of the Dragon, gastronomy (a must have in the UNESCO City of Gastronomy), interactive pathways, laser lights, thousands and thousands of fairy lights, as well as a 40m replica of Bendigo’s Sacred Heart Cathedral, Electric Wonderland will be an unforgettable experience for all the family. Running every night from 28 June – 14 July, this is a local favourite event for the family.

“Over several years, Electric Wonderland has developed into a must-see attraction and has become a beacon for winter fun during the school holidays. It’s wonderful to see it reimagined each year and I can’t wait to see how organisers present another fantastic show for our community,” says Glenn Harvey, Tourism Marketing Manager – Bendigo Tourism.

These two special events are sure to warm up the winter chill this school holidays and give the family all something to explore.
