Geelong’s finest music talent Rach Brennan releases new single ‘Moon Love’

Words by Staff Writer

Signalling in a new era for the songstress, 'Moon Love' is Rach Brennan's first offering of her new solo project.

Following a departure from her long-time mainstay band The Pines in 2021, Rach Brennan dives into the solo silo with single ‘Moon Love’.

‘Moon Love’ brings in a new sultry sound for the Geelong/Djilang songwriter who previously sat within an upbeat folk space with Rach Brennan and The Pines. Reflecting its namesake, ‘Moon Love’ is stoic and mesmeric whilst capturing Brennan’s forlorn and often romantic prose, building a captivating and confessional allure, with the utmost conviction.

Rach Brennan world-builds with her brother Liam Brennan in performance, steadily opening the vine-like drapes that encase the delicate soliloquy. Nick Huggins (Jess Ribiero, Alice Skye, Leah Senior) takes on producing and recording duties to lock listeners into the space created by Brennan, elevating the ethereal tone.

“I think ‘Moon Love’ is the most exposed and adoring song I’ve released. It’s a dedication and celebration of the intensity of loving someone and revelling in it. I wanted to come back with love. Love of music, for the process of creating, for my collaborators and for this new project. ‘Moon Love’ paints with all the colours of this new project, it felt right to release it first,” says Rach Brennan.

‘Moon Love’ is the first offering from a highly anticipated upcoming album, with subsequent singles ‘Kickstart’ and ‘if i’m gonna die’ coming in August and October respectively.

The song comes just in time for a performance with Sofar Sound Melbourne tomorrow evening, Saturday 15 June. It also comes ahead of her second performance as part of ReSound Festival, this one in Geelong at Popcultcha Records.
