The National Wool Museum was in fine finalist company, up against Eden Killer Whale Museum, Eden, NSW, Cobb+Co Museum, East Toowoomba, QLD, Katherine Museum, Katherine, NT, National ANZAC Centre, Mount Clarence, WA, National Museum of Australia, Acton, ACT, Birdwood Motor Museum, Birdwood, SA, and Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Invermay, TAS.
As a city known as the wool centre of Australia, Geelong’s very own National Wool Museum is as uniquely Australian as they come. Celebrating and showcasing the significance of our wool industry in Australia, the National Wool Museum is both uniquely Aussie in form and function. Being nestled into a heritage 19th-century bluestone wool store ticks the box for its signature Australia flare, but the diversity of exhibitions, both permanent and pop-up is unlike anything else on offer in the world.
As permanent fixtures to The National Wool Museum site, the museum takes you into the history of wool manufacturing in Australia, displaying the evolution of machinery in the craft and showing the step by step processes of textile-making. In addition, The National Wool Museum is currently displaying the craft of cult Australian furniture and textiles brand, Dowel Jones in a bold and daring showcase to celebrate their 10 year anniversary, along with the artistry of Michele Beevors through her textile animal dissection, Anatomy Lesson.
