From humble beginnings on Pakington Street back in 2016, things started on a high and remained there for burger joint owners Tim Harrison, brothers Jamie Kolovos and Jerry Kolovos and John Katos – as Boss quickly became one of the most popular burger joints in town. Initially featuring four beef burgers (with one for the kids), a chicken burger and a vego burger, Boss Burger Co expanded their menu within the year to include everything from ribs, loaded fried and mac ‘n’ cheese balls to jalapeno poppers.

Dishing out pure, unadulterated deliciousness ever since, the Boss Burger crew have gone on to open five more stores in and around the region, pumping out some damn tasty burgers to Waurn Ponds, Leopold, Torquay, Ballarat and Colac. And now they’ve just added one more, taking their total to seven stores across the region and undoubtedly crowning the Boss team the burger kings.

Opening this month, the new Lara venue encompasses everything we know and love about Boss Burger. From their sensational menu and their incredibly friendly, buoyant staff, to the bright neon sign, moody booths and a wall lined with some of the biggest bosses from pop culture over the years, this cool dimly-lit diner and bar is arguably their best store yet.

If you haven’t indulged in the beauty of their menu before, the joint kicks ass with their offerings of chicken and beef burgers. If beef is your jam, the ‘Boss’ or the ‘Boss Deluxe’ is a taste of heaven if you like it simple but delicious. The adventurous can step it up with the Sonny Red, which is packed with beef, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, cheese, jalapenos, ketchup, sriracha mayo and hot sauce. Oooftt.

If chicken is more your style, it’s their Tommy the Chook that kicks the burger experience up to the next level. Complete with crunchy, southern fried chicken, cheese, creamy slaw and sriracha mayo, this burger is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

For the veggos, they’ve got three delightful options, ranging from a ‘Don Veggio’ with a veggie patty, the ‘Vegan’ with a black bean and carrot patty, and even an ‘Imbossible’ with their special beyond meat plant patty.

To be honest, every burger on the menu here is delicious and pretty much perfect, so close your eyes, point at the menu and get set for a taste sensation.

Obviously, sides are a must too. You can’t go past the boss fries, which come complete with bacon, cheese sauce, boss sauce and chives; the mac n cheese ballerz and of course, their famous shakes, which range from Salted Caramel, Nutella, Snickers, Oreo and Milo to your standard vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and blue heaven.

What more could you want?

For those out in Lara, you can’t miss this place. It’s. So. Good.
