Absolute game-changer.

Ah, the drive-thru, how we love thee. Once a service reserved for Maccas, KFC and necessary road trip pit stops, drive-thrus are now a creative way for hospo businesses to do convenient and contactless takeaway, from coffees and toasties to parmis and even Boost Juice!

In an absolute game-changer for the Geelong foodie scene, Asian-fusion restaurant Mr Umami’s has teamed up with sister venue The Clarendon Hotel to bring us drive-thru banh mi as ‘Mr Matteo.’

Yes, read it again. Drive-thru banh mi – AKA the most vibrant and delicious sandwich in the world.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news via our website.

Found through the same drive-thru as Parmi Bandit, a favourite in Geelong for parmis-to-go, you’ll be able to score a delicious lunchtime bánh mì in either pork, chicken or jackfruit from Monday through to Saturday.

A saviour for when your paycheck is stretched a little thin, this crunchy French baguette is filled with a colourful combination of carrot, coriander, chilli, green onion, cucumber, pate and mayo, topped with Hoisin or Sriracha sauce plus your desired meat.

It’s the perfect balance of richness, acidity, texture, freshness and spice. In short, everything you could ever want in a sandwich and that’s why we’re pretty damn excited that we can now get our hands on the humble Vietnamese roll without getting out of the car.

Convenient and delicious, it’s a win, win.

Alongside the Bahn Mi, you can also find a selection of Chicken Parmi inspired rolls, perfect for those weekday lunches. From the plain schnitzel and salad to the fancy pants with spinach, avocado, capsicum and bocconcini, there is something for every kind of eater. There’s even the option to upsize with chips.

You can score your drive-thru banh mi at the Clarendon Hotel (Parmi bandit), 378 La Trobe Terrace, Newtown.
