“For well over a decade, I’ve been supremely grateful for the continued support that Australia has shown for all my shenanigans on the other side of the planet. I’ve likewise felt so guilty that I’ve never gotten the proper opportunity to show that appreciation in person,” said Darren Criss. “This short run of shows throughout Oz is a small token of that gratitude, and I hope that adding a couple more can make up for lost time with so many folks that have cheered me on since the beginning!”
Darren Criss is returning to Australia for a national tour this year
Darren Criss is a multi-talented performer who has won Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild awards. His diverse career has spanned television, film, music, and stage, showcasing his remarkable talents to global audiences.
His live shows feature an eclectic selection of songs from his impressive career as both a songwriter and performer. From the cult classic songs he penned for YouTube sensation Team Starkid to the memorable covers he performed during his Disney-song busking days and later on FOX’s hit TV show Glee. Criss also adds unique interpretations of contemporary pop and Broadway classics, along with music from his own EP releases over the years, all presented with his trademark spontaneity, humour, and insight.
Criss co-founded the viral sensation Team Starkid in 2009, propelling him to subcultural fame with “A Very Potter Musical,” a musical parody where he wrote songs and played the boy wizard. His cult status rose to mainstream recognition when he joined Ryan Murphy’s TV phenomenon Glee as Blaine Anderson. In 2018, he delivered a gripping performance as spree killer Andrew Cunanan in the award-winning true crime series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
Broadway has also embraced Criss, with him replacing Daniel Radcliffe in “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” earning him the Broadway.com award for favourite replacement. In 2015, he took on the title role in “Hedwig and The Angry Inch.” Criss made a triumphant return to Broadway in 2022 to star in David Mamet’s Tony Award-nominated play “American Buffalo,” alongside Laurence Fishburne and Sam Rockwell.
With three EP releases to his name, including “Human,” “Homework,” and “Masquerade,” Criss has proven his musical prowess, dominating the Billboard Heatseekers chart and the Billboard Independent Albums chart.
