Dan Kelly drops back into the music stratosphere with upcoming single, album and national tour.
Dan Kelly is back with new music! ‘Golden Shoes = Country Blues’, due to drop tomorrow, is the second single from his forthcoming LP, GOLDFEELS in-store on 6 September, on Golden Point Records via Metropolitan Groove Merchants.
The single announcement comes with a national GOODFEELS Australian Album Tour. After a sold-out show at the Tote in Melbourne last month, Kelly will be heading out with band Regional Crisis for a nine-date that sees him start at The Bridge Hotel Castlemaine on Sunday 8 September for the official album launch, looping around the East Coast and Adelaide back to Eltham on Saturday 14 December.

Written on the Dja Dja Wurrung lands of Central Victoria and produced by Dan Luscombe (Courtney Barnett, Amyl and the Sniffers), ‘Golden Shoes = Country Blues’ presents a reflective lament of the times, overlaying a typically buoyant Dan Kelly tune.
“Golden Shoes = Country Blues contains a list of all the things I don’t want to do,” explains Kelly. “The list song has a long history in popular music going back to the Catalogue Aria of Italian Comic Opera in the 18th century. Modern examples would be songs like Paul Simon’s ‘50 Ways To Leave Your Lover’, Dick Diver’s ‘Head Back’, The B52’s ‘52 Girls ‘, and Bob Dylan’s ‘All I Really Wanna Do’. Golden Shoes = Country Blues is a song that addresses the peace, isolation and occasional dread of living alone in a small country town. To me, it has a vibe that is similar to that of early Nick Lowe or Joe Jackson. But I’m possibly projecting here!”
GOODFEELS is a stellar addition to Kelly’s congested catalogue. Dan’s breakthrough albums with his band The Alpha Males, Sing The Tabloid Blues (2004), and the J Award-nominated Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth (2006) painted a frenetic portrait of Melbourne’s share house life. They were follows on by Kelly’s Dream in 2010 which presented a series of vignette travelogues of eccentrics and outsiders. In 2015, Kelly made his focus geographical, capturing a panorama of Northern New South Wales on Leisure Panic!, an album that tiptoed into folk and pastoral territory without dipped too far astray from his signature anime-inflected adventure rock.
