Since releasing her debut album The Sound of White in 2004 – a 12-time platinum triumph which spent a total of seven weeks at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart as signalled in with singles ‘Scar’, ‘Ten Day’s’ and ‘The Special Two’– Missy Higgins has gone on to become one of the highest selling singer-songwriters of our era, creating some of Australia’s most loved and recognised songs.

Higgins’ follow up album, 2007’s On A Clear Night, was equally adored by the nation. Winning another ARIA Award and shooting straight to the number one spot on the ARIA Albums Chart, 2012’s The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle did the same. Oz (2014) and Solastalgia (2018) both made it into the top three of the Albums Chart, as did Higgins’ 2022 mini-album of songs from ABC TV’s acclaimed series Total Control. Across the past two decades, all these releases have generated an extraordinary 25 ARIA Award nominations, each well deserved.

Missy Higgins’ first full length release in six years, The Second Act, will land on 6 September this year off the back of her biggest Australian tour in nearly 20 years. Across 40 sold-out dates to over 80,000 people, Higgins has simultaneously celebrated The Sound Of White’s anniversary and previewed new songs from The Second Act in a unique live show that has drawn unanimous rave reviews. Her final tour send-off will be held at Sidney Myer Music Bowl for one giant The Sound of White special.

Her colourful career as pistoled by her quiet determination has informed the next wave of Australian singer songwriters including Kate Miller-Heidke, Clare Bowditch and Amy Shark to Angie McMahon, Gordi and Gretta Ray.

Influenced by a vast range of genres growing up, from R&B and soul to alternative rock, pop, jazz and more; Higgins’ career began when her older sister Nicola famously entered her in Triple J’s Unearthed without Missy’s knowledge. The song was All For Believing: originally only written for a school music assignment during her time at Geelong Grammar School Timbertop. It went on to win the competition and kick-started this singular career.

ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, says of the induction, “Australia has seen Missy Higgins’ music career go from strength to strength, including nine ARIA Awards, several number one albums, and multiple sell-out national tours. The ARIA Hall of Fame is all about celebrating legendary music talent who leave a unique mark, inspiring not only the industry but Australia and the world. Missy is the absolute epitome of this. We couldn’t be happier to be welcoming one of Australia’s most loved and admired artists, Missy Higgins, into the ARIA Hall of Fame.”

Missy Higgins comments on the honour saying, “I feel very honoured and grateful. So many artists I love and admire are in the ARIA Hall Of Fame so it feels a bit surreal to be joining them. This year has already been really special, now this is going to make it even more memorable.”

Missy Higgins’ induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame will take place during the 2024 ARIA Awards, where she will join the ranks of Australia’s most revered musical legends and artists.

The ARIA Awards will broadcast from Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion live on Wednesday, 20 November from 5.00pm AEDT, only on Stan.
