Central Geelong’s Bake Off returns in March and registrations are now open

Are you ready to be crowned Central Geelong’s Best Amateur Baker?

Dust off your aprons, mixing bowls and piping bags: the Central Geelong Bake Off is back for the first time in years!

A key feature of Geelong’s annual Tastes of Central Geelong Festival, the beloved Bake Off returns this March with the aim of finding Geelong’s best home baker.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news across the region here.

If you’re a fan of Cake Wars, MasterChef, The Great Australian Bake Off or you just consider yourself a whiz in the kitchen, now’s your time to shine and participate in Geelong’s very own baking competition.

Putting those lockdown banana bread skills to the test, bakers just need to enter their signature sweet treat for the chance to be crowned Central Geelong’s Bake Off Champion, which will see them take home great prizes and earn bragging rights for life.

There are five exciting categories to submit your insta-worthy treats including:

  • Cupcakes and biscuits
  • Slices (including raw and vegan)
  • Kids aged 8-11
  • Kids aged 12-14
  • Water as the hero ingredient or method

Keen bakers are encouraged to dive into a world of culinary creativity and present treats to get the judges’ taste buds tingling.

For the more creative bakers, take things to the next level with Barwon Water’s ‘water’ category where you can showcase the versatility of water as either the hero ingredient or method in creating your sweet treats. Here, bakers will be encouaged to use their imagination to make Water the hero (aka using your favourite water-based recipe). Think a Hot Water Sponge Cake, or replacing milk with water in a recipe so that it becomes suitable for vegans, or how about boiling or steaming your baked goods or cooking them in a water bath? Or channel the Women’s Weekly swimming book cake and decorate your bake using water as the theme.

The more creative the better.

The bake off is presented by Pace Advertising, in collaboration with Baked By Us, Barwon Water, Forte (that’s right, we’ll be judging!), The Gordon, Westfield Geelong. Forming part of Tastes of Central Geelong.

Registrations are now open, and all you need to do to enter is submit your name, number, email and which category you’ll be applying to. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Go on, show us what you got. Register here

The Bake Off will take place on Saturday, March 25 from 10am at Westfield Geelong.
