Beloved Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo passes away at 35

Rest easy Johnny Ruffo.

In a somber announcement on his Instagram page, it was announced that former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has passed away at the age of 35 after a six year battle with brain cancer, leaving fans in shock and mourning.

Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny bid his final farewell in the presence of remarkable nurses and doctors. The statement expressed the heavy hearts of those who loved him and highlighted Johnny’s determination, charm, and occasional cheekiness. Describing him as a beautiful soul with much more to give, the message conveyed a deep sense of loss and gratitude for the joy he brought to many lives.

“It is with a heavy heart that today we had to farewell our beloved Johnny,” the post read.

“Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny went peacefully with the support of some incredible Nurses & Doctors.

“He was a very talented, charming and sometimes cheeky boy. Johnny was very determined and had a strong will. He battled all the way to the end and fought as hard as he could. Such a beautiful soul with so much more to give.

“We all love you Johnny and will remember you for all the joy you brought to our lives.”

Johnny Ruffo rose to national fame in 2011 when he clinched the third spot on The X Factor Australia. His popularity catapulted him to a record deal with Sony, leading to the release of hit singles like “On Top” and “Take It Home.” The versatile talent claimed victory in the 2012 season of Dancing With The Stars and embarked on a three-year stint as Chris Harrington on Channel 7’s soap opera, Home and Away.

In 2017, Ruffo shared the shocking news of his brain cancer diagnosis, undergoing surgery to remove a tumour. Despite a triumphant period of remission, the devastating revelation of a cancer recurrence in November 2020 marked a new chapter in his battle.

Ever resilient, Ruffo bravely shared his journey with fans on social media, documenting his treatment. In August 2022, he disclosed the heartbreaking news that his cancer was now terminal. Coinciding with this revelation was the release of his autobiography, aptly titled “No Finish Line,” where he declared that, despite the terminal prognosis, it wasn’t the end.

In one of his last public statements, Ruffo affirmed his determination to defy the odds. “I understand that the cancer is terminal, but I’m going to do everything I can, and I am currently doing everything I can to kick its a**,” he declared, embodying the spirit that endeared him to many throughout his career.

As fans mourn the loss of a beloved star, Johnny Ruffo’s legacy will undoubtedly endure through the joy he brought to screens and the courage he displayed in the face of adversity.
