Youth experts join ‘Love & Autism’ author Kay Kerr to champion disability representation in #LoveOzYA Literature

Empowering voices for authentic representation.

Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV) is a vibrant organisation led by women and non-binary individuals with disabilities. In a bid to comprehend the unique needs of young members within the WDV community, the WDV’s Youth Experts by Experience group emerged in 2022. Comprising young people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences of disability, this group of emerging leaders uses their first-hand knowledge to challenge stereotypes, debunk misconceptions, create valuable resources, and organize events that highlight their perspectives.

After a highly productive year for the Experts, WDV has unveiled “Disability Representation in #LoveOzYA” – an engaging online panel discussion on Thursday, November 23rd, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm (AEDT). #LoveOZYA is a hashtag used to celebrate Australian young adult literature.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

The panel, facilitated by budding writers and devoted Young Adult (YA) literature enthusiasts from the Youth Experts Group, promises a deep dive into the subject of disability representation. This exploration will involve conversations with some of the most influential and beloved voices in the YA genre.

One of the special guests gracing the panel is Kay Kerr, the talented author behind the recently launched book “Love & Autism.” Hailing from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Kay Kerr, an autistic author and journalist, brings a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to this enlightening event.

Additional special guest authors will be announced in the near future.
