Ballarat’s Kryal Castle is hosting a bone-chilling Halloween Horror Night

Words by Staff Writer

Is there anywhere better to get the Halloween spook on than in a real-life medieval castle?

Prepare for a spook-tacular Halloween as Kryal Castle unveils its eerie celebrations, packed with hair-raising experiences and ghastly surprises.

After a sold-out success last year, Kryal Castle is back with a range of family-friendly daytime activities and after-dark thrills, guaranteed to give you the heebie-jeebies.

Keep up with the latest in local news and entertainment here.

For those seeking spine-tingling thrills and chills, Kryal Castle’s “Halloween Horror Night” is a bone-chilling 14+ aged event. It features nine epic scare mazes, each designed to terrify even the bravest of souls.

Favourites from last year are making a spine-tingling return, including “The Hive,” a maze that will bring every arachnophobe’s worst fears to life with more insects and spiders than ever before. “The Chamber of Abomination” is back and has doubled in size, sending scare-seekers deep into the depths of the torture chamber. A new addition, “Paramnesia,” promises to petrify with gruesome clowns, ghosts, scarecrows, haunted dolls, and evil spirits lurking around every corner.

For an immersive sensory experience, the “Sensory Deprivation” room awaits, where guests will be blindfolded and must rely on their hearing and touch to navigate the jump scares and eerie sounds. If that doesn’t get your heart racing, “Escape” will challenge your claustrophobia as you crawl through tight spaces, all while gruesome characters lurk around each corner. In the Post Apocalyptic Wasteland, a Mad Max-style horror scape is filled with cannibals and dystopian horrors. “The Maze of a Thousand Doors” puts you in a terrifying chase with a homicidal maniac, and don’t miss the Chapel’s interactive horror projection experience. For a gruesome spectacle, be sure not to ‘lose your head’ as macabre dementors drop from the ceiling in the Haunted Grandstand.

Additional hair-raising entertainment includes a motorcycle joust, a sword fight to the death, archery, axe-throwing, and plenty of horror-inspired food and drinks. A DJ will keep the Halloween vibes going with tunes that will have you dancing the night away.

If that all sounds like a lot and you’d prefer something you can bring the kids to, the Trick or Treat for Families is the perfect choice. This daytime programme, running on the 28th and 29th of October, transforms the castle into a trail of quirky surprises and challenges. Kids can get their hands on tantalising trick-or-treat bags by solving ghoulish riddles and challenges. Along the way, they can meet some eerie new friends, including the Bride of Frankenstein and Dracula, roaming the castle grounds.

To make the experience even more immersive, visitors are encouraged to don their spookiest costumes and visit the face-painting station to create a ghastly new look for the Halloween costume parade. Young adventurers can also try their hand at sword-fighting at Halloween Knight School, practice axe-throwing at Zombie Survival, and even have a go at Pumpkin Archery. The Wizard Guild is the place to be for a touch of Halloween magic, allowing kids to meet the mysterious wizard and learn some mystical spells.

With Halloween-themed food and drinks on offer and iconic medieval spectacles like Trial By Combat and Jousting, Kryal Castle is the ultimate destination for families to embrace the spooky season.
