Nothing beats live music, but a free Sunday Session is even better, especially with Astrid Armstrong!
Earlier this year, we met Geelong’s biggest rising star, 16-year-old Astrid Armstrong. The introduction to Armstrong was one that started from her parents, juggernaut music industry heads and well-known Geelong movers and shakers, and stemmed down to herself, exploring her undeniable talent.
That was in April ahead of her first Barwon Club Hotel show for the year. Since then Astrid Armstrong has had no shadow to stand in, becoming a recognised name in the Geelong music ecology in her own right thanks to her powerful pipes and vibrant presence.

Across a short seven months, Armstrong has catapulted and embedded herself in the local scene. Teaming up with keys king Oscar Rose under the Astrid Armstrong Duo banner, the two have taken the town by storm.
Her unique blend of soul, funk, R&B, and pop marries with Rose’s rhythmic key caressing on the eighty-eights beautifully in captivating live outputs, elevating her gloriously soulful vocals and ensuring that everyone in the room has their eyes glued to the stage. The two are teaming up again to see out the end of the year in the same way it started, back on the stage of rock ‘n’ roll institute, the Barwon Club Hotel.
Taking place on Saturday 8 December, Armstrong and Rose will send off the year in style with a free Sunday session. Yes – you read that right – FREE! Titled the Sunday Session of soul, pop, R&B, blues and classics, Armstrong will serenade crowds between 2pm and 4pm, tackling covers, already out there songs and some new material. The show will take place in the sunny summer sun of the back courtyard and dining area.
Having recently been in the studio, Astrid Armstrong is gearing up to release a new song, with the single in question bound to make it into the setlist, along with some other new material. It’s a gift for her fans as the festive season approaches.
The Barwon Club Show is open to those under the age of 18, however they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian due to the venue being licenced. With the Barwon Club moving into new ownership, it’s not only a chance to witness timeless talent but to experience the exciting new step in the iconic venues history. The kitchen will be open all afternoon to feed your appetite as you sink into Armstrong’s soulful web.
As 2024 sees its end in a full circle moment, Armstrong already has her sights set on 2025 with a bunch of epic shows lined up. Shows are confirmed for Point Lonsdale Surf Club, Highton Lawn Bowls Open Day and Airey’s Inlet Music Festival. Further information on these ones is to come.
Armstrong will further take over the lead singer in the Geelong College Stage Band in 2025 with performances set to be plentiful. The strides in her professional development stem from her commitment to her craft. The years have seen Armstrong graduation from High Voltage Rock School, Wayne Jury’s Blues Boot Camp, Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society (MBAS) Youth in Blues and MBAS Women in Blues, also nabbing the title of the youngest ever participant. With vocal coaching from Stellar Perry and now Kim Cooper of Kim Cooper Studio of Voice, Armstrong continues to polish her pipes.
2025 promises to be an even bigger year for the Geelong songstress! But before the year is out don’t miss your chance to be part of Astrid Armstrong’s celebratory Barwon Club concert to send off 2024.
