Guided by the desire to bring live music back ‘down south’ in regional Victoria, the festival will be a one day feast of all things punk and indie rock, presented by the good humans at Yeah Nahhh, an independent live events collective which curates/promotes gigs across Melbourne and small tours throughout Australia. These guys have been booking shows since 2015 at reputable venues including The Tote, Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar, The Old Bar, The Reverence (R.I.P), The Curtin and more interstate, promoting bands making great music with a strong DIY ethos.
Hailing from regional Victoria themselves, they aim to bring some of the best bands our state has to offer into Southwest Vic through Down South Festival, with a little help from The Star of the West Hotel, Fixation Brewing, Music Victoria and Creative Victoria.
Taking place outdoors of local institution The Star of The West Hotel on a single stage, the festival has announced beloved pub rock trio Amyl and The Sniffers as headliners for the event, alongside the likes of Stiff Richards, Proto Moro, Foley!, Leslie D King & The Trembling Shakes, Blonde Revolver, The Flying So High-O’s, Cutters, Tommy Dynamite & The Explosions, The Monaros, The Fillmores, Joe Terror, Snake’s Don’t Need Keys and Grace Moloney.
Alongside the music, the festival will also see an abundance of record stalls, merch, food, fresh beers and more.
“We aim to bring people together and showcase live bands making waves across the state,” the festival said.
“Bring your fishing rod and find somewhere to lay your head, our seaside town is ready. Pub rock is back to stay.”
