Homegrown eight-time ARIA award-winning, singer-songwriter, Amy Shark, finally performed in Melbourne in support of her newest album, 'Cry Forever'.

After dreaded Covid caused havoc with her tour schedule last year, Aussie pop sensation Amy Shark finally took to the stage on Friday night, March 4 at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne to remind her audience what a raw and rare talent she is.

Amy’s ‘Cry Forever Tour’ showcases her offerings from the release of her 2021 album of the same name. The album is a fitting follow up to Amy’s 2018’s Love Monster. The tracks explore Amy Shark’s rise to fame, after a rough introduction into the music industry.

Amy’s new songs, which include ‘C’mon’ and ‘Worst Day of My Life’ move away from the sometimes overbearing pop ingredients and focus on her natural talent. The home-grown, eight-time ARIA award-winning, singer-songwriter certainly proved her worth after a fantastic show, blending a perfect balance of old and new material.

Amy entered the stage through smoke and into the eerie intro of her first song ‘The Wolves.’ She then pumped up the audience with ‘Everybody Rise,’ before asking if it was too early to play a sexy song. Of course the audience responded with a clear yes and Amy sang a very seductive ‘Miss You.’

Amy then performed ‘You’ll Never Meet Anyone like me again,’ a song she claims was one of her favourites.

A true highlight of the evening was halfway through the show when Amy played a brilliant cover of ‘Mr. Brightside’ by the Killers. The whole crowd erupted and security was needed to get people back in their seats.

Another high point was when Amy discussed how she came to write a duet with Ed Sheeran ‘Love songs Ain’t for us.’ She performed this beautifully, providing a nice balance to her rougher edged tunes ‘I said Hi’ and ‘Mess her Up’, which again proved crowd favourites.

The energy of last night’s show was hard to ignore, as it helped mark the start of live music again. Fans in the venue understood how special of a night it was. The simple lighting and minimal stage design set added to the natural and warm atmosphere presented by Amy, who often paused to share some personal experiences and history behind the songs.

After some impressive ARIA wins including ‘Best Australian Live Act’ which she picked up for her last tour, along with ‘Best Pop Release’ for ‘Everybody Rise’, Shark is no stranger to the big stage and this was certainly cemented after last night’s performance.
