Lightscape, Melbourne’s sold out 2022 winter event, returns to Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, all new and reimagined for 2023.
– ttendees will be mesmerised at Lightscape by an eight-metre sphere filled with over 20,000 moving LEDs, singing trees and a flickering fire garden amongst colour-changing installations, soundscapes and large-scale illuminated sculptures. They can also experience the new two-kilometre trail around the lake and celebrate the beauty of nature after dark.
Melburnians are also encouraged to rug up and grab a bite to eat at the food trucks and bars at the Lightscape Welcome Zone or at The Terrace along the trail.
The Lightscape changes are joined by the addition of new interactive digital maps. Visitors will be able to scan the QR codes on-site and navigate their way around the Gardens, using the dot to find where they are and see what’s nearby.

Also coming up this season, new Forest Therapy sessions come to the Gardens. Originating from Japan, Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing is a preventative health practice that the Gardens say improves and strengthens mental and physical wellbeing. Recognised as a public health practice in Asia and Europe, Forest Therapy is gaining global acclaim as an evidence-based, cost-effective and natural remedy – a ‘green prescription’ for a healthier you.
They say the new guided wellbeing experience is slow, intentional and immersive, supporting you to mindfully connect with nature. You will learn simple nature connection, sensory and creative practices to help calm your mind. Other health benefits of Forest Therapy include boosted immune system, reduced stress levels, regulated pulse and blood pressure and better sleep.
