The annual charity football match is returning to Melbourne after two years away from the field.

Melbourne’s much adored charity football match, the Reclink Community Cup, is back for another glorious match. Raising much needed funds for Reclink, a charity that creates structured sport and recreation programs to improve life for those experiencing homelessness, gambling harm, alcohol rehabilitation or family violence, the Reclink Community Cup pits musicians against media industry staff in a game of footy.

The key takeaways

  • The Reclink Cup is back after a two year hiatus
  • It’s a charity game that sees a team of musicians going head-to-head against a team of media professionals
  • The game will be at Victoria Park in Abbotsford, on Sunday June 19

“Reclink has always talked about bringing people from isolation into inclusion… now Melbourne knows what isolation feels like and our mantra has become a national conversation,” says Reclink Australia CEO Dave Wells. “The Reclink Community Cup has great significance within the community and provides a valuable, much-needed contribution to Reclink’s annual fundraising efforts.”

Having started in 1993, the event now attracts more than 12,000 people a year. The event hasn’t been able to go ahead over the last two years for, well, obvious reasons, and this year they’re aiming to recoup some of the funding lost during the pandemic. It’s Reclink Australia’s largest fundraising program, raising both awareness and funds for Australia’s most disadvantaged. Taking place on June 19 this year at Abbotsford’s Victoria Park, it promises to be a spectacular return to the field.

“Our structured sport and recreation programs have been independently evaluated by La Trobe University, with proven results and improved life outcomes,” he continues. “Participants in Reclink’s programs include those experiencing mental illness, family violence, homelessness, social isolation, gambling harm, unemployment, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.”

Tickets can be purchased from May 11 – $25 for adults, $5 for 3-16 year olds and free for under 3s. For more information, head here.
