Championing men’s mental wellbeing in Geelong, Right Mate is hosting a Men’s Yoga Beginners Course

Join Right Mate, in conjunction with Tim Oddie from Geelong City Yoga for a 4 week beginners Yoga course for men and experience the benefits of Iyenger Yoga.

Yoga has so much to offer us all. What is basically a movement-based mindfulness practice, can help us physically, mentally and emotionally cope with the pressures of modern life.

Thanks to a community grant from City of Greater Geelong, the local men’s wellbeing community Right Mate, in conjunction with Geelong City Yoga, has announced a four week Men’s Yoga Beginners Course, that offers an incredible range of benefits for men of all ages.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here

Founded by a desire to change the narrative and stigma surrounding men’s mental health, Right Mate was launched by Geelong locals Chris Lytas and Luke Outerbridge, two individuals passionate about not only encouraging the conversation about men’s mental health, but also understanding the actual issue and providing avenues for positive solutions. The result is an online hub with links to community-based men’s groups, links to professional services and resources for people to be able to access, that cover a range of topics. There is even a selection of deliverable programs tailored to sporting clubs, Dad’s groups, Schools and the female audience, which they see as key to breaking down the stigma of Mens’ mental health.

With an ultimate aim to build a community of men who look out for each other and are comfortable in their own skin, Right Mate continues to boost men’s physical and mental well-being with the newly announced Yoga Course.

Running for four weeks in May, the course is designed for absolute beginners; for men of all shapes, sizes and levels of fitness with no yoga experience. The use of props (chairs, blocks, belts and blankets) makes the poses/movements accessible for most people without a major disability regardless of age or physical condition.

Detailed instruction and the ability to adapt the practice for individual needs means chronic injuries can be managed and maybe even relieved.

Beginning May 3 in studio at Geelong City Yoga (Level 1/46 Malop St, Geelong), the commitment is one session a week for four weeks with additional online content made available to participants.

Running from 7pm every Tuesday, physicality here is just the kick-off point. Through this practice men will feel not just more physically able but more emotionally centred and resilient. They will find the gains are certainly worth the effort. Every time!

It’s only $20 (fully Refundable $20 deposit to covers use of equipment), however, places are strictly limited.
