In the most adorable news of the year, the Geelong Showgrounds transformed into a sea of golden fur as over 1200 wagging tails and their owners gathered this weekend for an unofficial world record attempt.
The annual Gold Rush event, held yesterday, not only set a new world record but also raised funds for a heartwarming cause – Golden Retriever Rescue.

Organised by the passionate Carly Fitzgerald, this event has grown into a canine carnival that attracts golden retriever enthusiasts from all corners. Inspired by the 150th anniversary celebration of golden retrievers in Scotland, the Gold Rush has become a much-anticipated annual affair.
Last year’s Gold Rush managed to raise an impressive $36,000 for Golden Retriever Rescue, and this year’s event promises to surpass that milestone. The irresistible charm of these four-legged companions drew more participants than ever before, with 1252 golden retrievers gracing the showgrounds – about 100 more than the previous year.

All you had to do to get involved was show on on Sunday, November 12th with a golden retriever by your side. The event also featured over 60 stallholders, food trucks, raffles, and a plethora of activities, including a lure course, a temptation alley module, and exciting demonstrations such as obedience and retrieving exhibitions. Even if you didn’t have a golden retriever, you could still attend for a Goldie fix with a Gold Coin Donation for entry.
All monies raised during this paw-some day were donated to Golden Retriever Rescue Inc.
