Owners Stephanie and Chris put elbow grease into the space to transform it into Astray. Giving the space a facelift including a paint job in colours dark navy and grey, and building a glorious L-shaped bar with from scratch, Astray is designed to have an intimate mood. A neon Astray sign hangs over the bar with a second neon sign of a cat hanging over the shelving.

The cat is a theme adopted throughout the decor, as taken from the bars title play on words (astray/a stray) with fun wall-art of cats posing as Victoria ladies and rockstars like Prince, Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, and Katy Perry, and of course literary quotes like the famed “What’s in a name? That which we call a cat by any other name would purr as sweet” by none-other than renowned Shakespurr. It’s more than appropriate for the Cat country they are opening in!

On the beer front, they hold their own House Cat Lager, Valhalla’s golden ale, Salt Brewing Co.’s Shaka Pale, Blackman’s Reginald IPA and more on tap, ready to flow for those day-time drinks and evening nips.

The opening events happening Friday 5 July and Saturday 6 July from 5pm until late will include food and drink specials so locals can treat their curiosity.
