It’s one of Melbourne's most anticipated events.
Ah, Garlic Bread. The holy trinity of bread, butter, and garlic was created by the gluten gods to make us mere mortals very, very happy – you know, in a greasy, buttery, carby type of way. We love it, there’s no ifs, buts or maybes about it, which is why we’re pretty damn excited that an entire festival dedicated to the delicious creation is heading to Melbourne this April.
The key takeaways
- Welcome to Thornbury is hosting the annual Garlic Bread Festival
- Essentially it’s a whole day dedicated to eating and celebrating garlic bread
- The bar will be serving savoury cocktails to pair with your bread

Coined the Garlic Bread Festival, this annual event is like Christmas, truly sacred and special, and will return to Northcote’s giant dog-friendly food truck park – Welcome To Thornbury – on Saturday, April 30 from 12pm.
Comforting in every guise, expect to find garlic bread burgers, garlic bread cheesesteaks, garlic bread arancini and, of course, the good ol’ foil-wrapped classic garlic bread. There will even be some experimental garlic bread, Garlic bread Bloody Mary’s, and Garlic, butter and bread stalls so you can DIY at home.
Stall holders this year include Welcome to Garlic Town, Nuggies, Chef Calamari, Sparrows Philly Cheese, Mr Burger, Porcupine Eatery, Wylee garlic and Lardass Butter, among others.
To wash it all down, the bar will be serving a variety of minty fresh drinks all day, alongside cocktails, beers, ciders and wines. As usual at Welcome To Thornbury, dogs are definitely welcome.
Go forth, fellow garlic bread lovers, go forth and indulge. Oh, and BYO breath mints.
